Just a short recap......#17 was the Cherry Blossom Festival 5K held on April 12th to benefit the Cincinnati Parks.
We started at Yeatman's Cove and followed the path through the International Park downtown near the Montgomery Inn Boathouse and back again.
This was the inaugural event for this race. A small crowd gathered to raise money for the Cincinnati Parks. Lots of families with kids in strollers.
Glorious day. While I was expecting this:
or maybe this:
But I got this:
...which is fine. But sometimes life doesn't meet with expectations.
Bummer.
I have set a goal to complete 50 5Ks before I am fifty. I turn 50 in February 2015, so I have given myself 18 months. Given that some months have relatively few choices, while others have numerous options available, I just might make it.

#16 - Gorilla Run
This was by far...the best one yet. I mean, how often do you get to wear a gorilla costume? I mean, for most of us suburbanites, that's not considered "day wear".
Gorillas in bathing suits. Gorillas in sports apparel. Gorillas in formal wear. A Scottish Gorilla. A belly dancing Gorilla. Pajama- clad Gorillas. Big Gorillas. Small Gorillas. There was even a banana....and a Man with the Yellow Hat.
Starting point at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse, across the Purple People Bridge, down around the riverfront in Kentucky and back again. Now, I am pretty sure that the organizers of this event alerted the proper authorities as there were several streets closed off for the race and many police officers directing traffic. They failed to alert the general populace.
As the first stream of gorilla clad individuals raced out of the Boathouse parking lot and onto the bridge, people already on the bridge swerved out of the way. "Daddy, what's going on?" "I don't know, honey....stay close to me." They were followed by another wave of gorillas, then another.
One of the top fundraisers for the event was a kid named Brady. He gathered his entire extended family (45 people) to attend the event and gathered a tub full of old cell phones to turn into cash for the organization. He is 9. Not even a decade.
Nice.
The after party featured Honey Baked Ham and Montgomery Inn Food. And free beer. Really bad beer. Really. Don't care if it was free. Bad beer is still bad even when it's free.
And the kicker, you ask? I get to keep the gorilla suit. Set for Halloween...I am. You're jealous, aren't you? Yes, you are.
